1. Should the Patriotic Pillow resemble the American Flag?
Yes, we Do encourage creative liberty, but reserve and protect the dignity of what this gift of comfort, represents! *Refer to # 3 answer for more details pertaining to this issue!
2. What fabrics should I choose?
Cottons, blends, flannels, fleece, corduroy, and even some denim has been used for backs! It of course is easiest to use cotton material. This moves best through most machines, and launders well!
3. What colors should I purchase?
The colors of the American Flag identity; however we strongly recommend that cloth whether a calico or different print remain Respectful & Patriotic. Please do not incorporate Juvenile prints. These are going to Brave Men & Women that have Served in harms’ way. Do NOT ever use a Real American flag, remove the staff and stitch it into a bedding item! These received items would then be destroyed according to the proper disposal regulations in keeping with the Flag Code! There are as there should be Flag codes; and we strongly recommend and encourage individuals to Display their respect and reverence towards this symbol of Liberty and Freedom! Our pattern has #3 red and #3 white stripes and a field of blue of your choice, specifically NOT to try to duplicate the TRUE American Flag!
4. If my Patriotic Pillow covers do Not come out perfect, will they still be forwarded?
Yes! We have volunteers from All different age groups and experienced sewing levels. Many may be first time sewers, yearning to learn a new skill! They can through our program, give back to a deserving Military member or Veteran through their recognition to create a “Patriotic Pillow.” Our Pillow forms the foundation of our Program is the size of an airline pillow! Hence the dimensions! These beautifully hand crafted pillow forms are created by C.A.R.C. the Chicago Association of Retarded Citizens! They are created by caring challenged citizens, whom do their Best!
5. Should one end be left open?
Yes, if you were to look at the finished “Patriotic Pillow” cover you would want the end with all stripes to Be that open end! Finish this by turning the cloth to the inside to small 1/8″ folds and top stitch! This then creates a finished pillow slip/case! We intentionally designed our “Patriotic Pillow” to be removable if the recipient desires or has a need to launder their useful, serviceable gift of comfort!
6. May we share a personal message from the “Patriotic Pillow” cover creator(s), group or organization? i.e….Cards or note?
Yes, however there is strict criteria in this regard! We are looking for Supportive, Positive, Uplifting messages of Respect, Gratitude, Compassion & Prayers! There will be nothing forwarded through this program that is at all considered negative, political, or any anti-war sentiment! This program will not be a platform for individuals opinions that may harm a recipients feelings!
7. What do we send to you, just the “Patriotic Pillow” covers and or cards?
Yes, we will provide the pillow form as mentioned above! Not everyone sews, So if this is not your fortei, Please just send along your well wishes, and /or consider our “Kenny’s Kaps” program! We will also too be adding another simple, basic simple sewing program in the very near future!
8. Do you sell any of these items, ever?
NO, the Special and Unique nature of this program is that these, have NOT; nor will they ever be available for purchase! ALL the “Patriotic Pillows” and or “Kenny’s Kaps” are shared and delivered as Gifts, to our recipients!
9. Will additional questions be addressed by the Founder & coordinator?

Some additional tidbits! When we receive your “Patriotic Pillow” cover contribution we enter your information into our log….send out a Thank You note recognizing you quantity received! The “Patriotic Pillow” then receives it’s website label for our recipients’ reference! Our own greeting card is included noting the State of Illinois Military Order of the Purple Heart Organization’s generous Support and contributions towards our program! We are very Honored & Grateful to have their assistance to Help us achieve our goals to reach more deserving recipients!
